Saya Berkunjung dan Saya Harus Kembali Lagi "I came through and I shall return."

Selain cantiknya panorama Tugu MacArthur, tugu ini telah memperkaya khazanah sejarah. Seperti kutipan paling terkenal dari sang Jenderal: "I came through and I shall return." Seorang Jenderal Besar AS itu bernama Douglas MacArthur. Pada Perang Dunia II, ia datang ke Papua untuk mengusir tentara Jepang yang menduduki kawasan ini. Kisah ini tertulis di Tugu MacArthur, Kota Jayapura. Teluk Humboldt (orang lokal menyebutnya Teluk Hamadi) adalah daerah pertama tempat dimana sang Jendral mendaratkan pasukannya dan membuat basis pertahanan di sana, pasukan MacArthur kemudian menguasai daerah Ifar Gunung di Kabupaten Jayapura. Dulu, Ifar Gunung menjadi basis pertahanan tentara AS. Di sinilah Tugu MacArthur berada sebagai saksi bisu kebesaran sang Jenderal Sekutu. Tugu MacArthur berada di salah satu puncak Pegunungan Cyclops, akan tetapi sekarang tempat ini merupakan sebuah gerbang kompleks militer yaitu Resimen Induk Kodam (Rindam) XVIII Trikora. Setelah meninggalkan KTP di pintu masuk dan membuka jendela mobil lebar-lebar untuk mendapatkan ijin memasuki kompleks tersebut. Sayang tempat ini hanya bisa dinikmati dalam jangka waktu tertentu saja.

In addition to it's beautiful panoramic, MacArthur Monument has been enriching the history of Indonesia. As the most famous quote by the General: "I came through and I shall return." A US General Douglas MacArthur was there. In World War II, he came to Papua to expel the Japanese army occupying this region. This story written in MacArthur Monument, City of Jayapura. Humboldt Bay (local people call it the Hamadi Gulf) is the first area where the General landed his troops and made the base defense there, MacArthur's forces then controlled the area of Ifar Mountains in Jayapura. In the past, Ifar Mountains turned into the US army defense base. This is where the monument MacArthur become a silent witness to the greatness of the Allied General. MacArthur Monument located in one of the peak of Cyclops Mountains, but now this place is a gate of military complex which called Parent Regiment Military Command (Indonesian language is Rindam for its abbreviation ) of Trikora XVIII. After leaving ID card at the entrance and opened the car window widely to get a permit to enter the complex. Unfortunately this place can only be enjoyed within a limited period of time only.

 

 

 

 

 

Kini saya mengerti kenapa sang Jendral ingin kembali lagi. Saya saja ingin kembali lagi karena keindahan alamnya serta kekayaan alamnya. Namun sayang saya hanyalah manusia biasa bukan seorang Jendral.

Now I understand why the General wanted to return back again. I just wanted to come back again for its natural beauty and natural resources. But unfortunately I am just a human being instead of a General.
